InterContinental Halong Bay Adds A Six-Bedroom Estate Designed For Longer Stays

A private beachfront residence invite guests to more languid stays at the resort.

Ha Long Bay has spent decades being seen from the water. Cruise junks still ply its limestone karsts each morning, delivering travellers to caves and coves before returning them, by evening, to somewhere else. InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is wagering that the bay’s next chapter unfolds on land, and the centrepiece of that wager is Halong Bay Estate its newly opened six-bedroom residence

A resort within the resort, the 565 sqm estate is built for a genuine houseful of guests rather than a single travelling party. A private cinema, billiard room and library sit alongside a dedicated spa and gym, while a sea-facing infinity pool and open-air terraces face the bay itself. A private chef handles breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails in-villa, with a mini-bar stocked to match, champagne included.

Rates begin at US$9,600++ a night, positioning the estate for the kind of multi-generational gathering, corporate retreat or milestone celebration that no single suite, however grand, can quite accommodate.

Away from the estate, InterContinental Halong Bay has introduced a refreshed dining programme to extend the same proposition. Yulong Mansion, the resort’s new Chinese dining room, is led by Head Chef Kan. The kitchen’s centre of gravity is Cantonese, though the menu ranges north into Sichuan and Northern Chinese cooking, with a 42-day pinewood-roasted Peking duck as its star dish.

At Roku, the resort’s Japanese restaurant and rooftop sky bar, the arrival of Executive Chef Andy Huynh brings 15 years of Nobu pedigree, including executive roles in the Bahamas and California. The menu is built around six core techniques, a nod to the restaurant’s name, spanning sushi and sashimi, pickling, grilling, simmering, steaming and frying. It is a tighter, more technique-led proposition than Yulong Mansion’s, but one aimed at the same guests: someone staying long enough to make a rooftop dinner worth returning for.

None of this, however, displaces the boats. Ha Long Bay’s caves and islands remain the reason most people first hear of the place. The Bay’s tourism has grown sharply, with 8.2 million visitors recorded in 2025, a 91 per cent increase on 2019. Yet the majority still arrive for the traditional short stay-and-cruise itinerary. InterContinental Halong Bay now encourages guests to do the opposite: treat the shore, not the sea, as the destination worth lingering over.
