House Of Glen Grant Introduces 12-Year-Old Sherry Cask Finish

The Speyside distillery lets Oloroso casks add weight to a whisky built on restraint.

Glen Grant Sherry Cask Finish Whisky

Sherry finishing is a delicate operation to get wrong. First-fill Oloroso casks are strong enough to overwhelm a spirit’s own character entirely, and The Glen Grant’s 12-Year-Old has always offered the opposite quality: a fragrant, fruit-forward style that depends on restraint rather than intensity.

The distillery’s new Sherry Cask Finish, launching in Singapore as one of its first Southeast Asian markets, is a test of whether that balance survives contact with a cask built to dominate.

Exclusive to Asia, this single malt unites fruity character with depth from secondary maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Image from The Glen Grant.

Master Distiller Greig Stables frames the answer as a matter of sequencing and selection rather than formula. Barrels are married together before the whisky ever meets Oloroso wood, and each sherry cask is hand-picked rather than used wholesale—a safeguard, he suggests, against the cask’s tendency to flatten a spirit’s distinctions into generic sherry sweetness.

Stables has also called the finish a preview of character usually reserved for the distillery’s older expressions, brought forward into an accessible age statement.

The result carries orchard fruit and cinnamon on the nose, moving into caramelised red apple, vanilla and spice on the palate— additions to the fragrant profile The Glen Grant has built since founder Major James Grant took over the distillery in 1872.

The whisky is presented in a striking deep red gift box and matching label. Image from The Glen Grant.

His botanical collecting expeditions, which produced Scotland’s only distillery-attached botanic garden, remain the house’s reference point for the exploratory instinct behind the whisky itself.

Packaged in a deep red gift box that signals the sherry influence before the bottle is opened, the release arrives at S$99 through selected retailers and whisky specialists in Singapore.
