A. Lange & Söhne has a knack for making marginal improvements that appear simple but are, in reality, thoughtfully conceived and fastidiously constructed.

The German watchmaking house’s trio of novelties for 2026 confirms this pattern, making three very different, and solid, arguments for its “Never Stand Still” rallying cry, coined by Walter Lange, great-grandson of the brand’s founder. One model resurfaces in a new material, another employs the theatrical drama of luminosity, and the third ruminates on the beauty of restraint.

Lange’s rectangular Cabaret, in production since 1997, gets a regal treatment this year. The 50-piece limited edition Cabaret Tourbillon Honeygold, incidentally also the 18th Lange watch to be encased in honey gold, features both case and dial crafted from the manufacture’s proprietary 18k Honeygold alloy.

The warm golden hue pairs beautifully against a black-rhodiumed dial featuring raised elements hand-sculpted in relief, a process that takes weeks. An aperture at 6 o’clock opens onto the tourbillon mechanism, the world’s first hacking tourbillon when it debuted in 2008, which lets the wearer halt the rotating tourbillon carriage and, with a zero-reset function, set the time with unerring precision. The manually wound calibre L042.1, a form movement built specifically for the rectangular case, delivers 120 hours of power reserve from a twin mainspring barrel.

The Lumen line has always asked what a Lange grand complication looks like in the dark. This year’s expression, limited to 50 pieces, is arguably its most ambitious yet, pairing a tourbillon with a perpetual calendar, both fully luminous, inside the instantly recognisable off-centre Lange 1 architecture.

The outsize date, the retrograde day, the moon phase: every display glows, including, for the first time in this series, the moon itself, set against a celestial disc that tracks day and night independently. Beneath it sits the newly developed calibre L225.1, a self-winding movement of 685 parts that Lange built around the platinum case’s semi-transparent dial, so the mechanism becomes part of the display, lit and unlit alike. The 18k white gold rotor carries a platinum centrifugal mass, finished with the same colour contrast as the dial.

Saxonia Annual Calendar

Where the other two models brim with technical and aesthetic complexity, the Saxonia Annual Calendar makes its case through restraint. A new self-winding calibre, the L207.1, sits inside a 36mm white or pink gold case designed to slide under a shirt cuff, while the dial is at the service of refinement, functionality, and legibility.

The annual calendar recognises which months run to 30 days and which to 31, advancing itself cleanly at every month’s end bar one correction each February. Every indication (date, day, month, moon phase) can be set jointly with a single pusher at ten o’clock, or individually as needed. The complication is designed for daily wear rather than ostentation: something a collector can set once a year and otherwise simply live with. The moon disc, meanwhile, needs correction only once every 122.6 years, precision subtly expressed on a watch that trades on quiet sophistication.
